How Network Infrastructure and SASE Improve Cybersecurity

Cybersecurity has never been as prominent as it is now in the era of digitization. As businesses have embraced work-from-home, cloud computing, and hybrid setups, outdated security infrastructures lag to deliver the security required. That is where network infrastructure and SASE step in to bridge the gaps. The two technologies complement each other to maximize the use of cybersecurity so that data are securely made available effectively over distributed networks.

Knowledge of Network Infrastructure in Cybersecurity

Network infrastructure is the internet communications infrastructure, both hardware and software elements for secure data transport. Network infrastructure entails routers, switches, firewalls, cloud computing, and security mechanisms of networks. A good network infrastructure forms the foundation of a robust cybersecurity infrastructure by:

Decreasing Attack Surfaces – Segmented networks and firewalls limit unauthorized traffic, diminishing cyber-attacks.

Enhancing Threat Detection – Intrusion Detection and Prevention Systems (IDPS) analyze traffic within the network for anomalous patterns, identifying threats at an early stage.

Ensuring Safe Communication – Encrypted protocols like SSL/TLS encrypt data in transit, so that it is no longer susceptible to eavesdropping by attackers.

Enabling Zero Trust Security – New network architecture adopts Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA), whereby there is persistent verification of the device and user prior to authorization.

But as companies grow out to the cloud and remote areas, the classical network security apparatus is no longer applicable. And that is where SASE comes in.

    What is SASE?

Secure Access Service Edge (SASE) is a cloud-native security service that integrates networking and security into one service model. Gartner coined the term SASE in 2019 by blending Software-Defined Wide Area Networking (SD-WAN) and next-generation security products such as:

    • Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA)
    • Cloud Access Security Broker (CASB)
    • Secure Web Gateway (SWG)
    • Firewall as a Service (FWaaS)

SASE disrupts security from physical, perimeter-based infrastructure to cloud-delivered security that provides silent, seamless protection to all users and devices, everywhere.

How Network Infrastructure and SASE Collaborate

    1. Securing Remote Access

With more and more remote workers, organizations require enterprise-level security solutions beyond their firewalls. SASE combines Zero Trust Network Access (ZTNA) to allow only authorized parties to be in touch with sensitive information. VPNs are susceptible to attacks and, therefore are not required for a job like that.

    2. Cloud Security Improved

Legacy security devices are replaced by cloud applications such as Google Drive, Microsoft 365, and AWS. SASE CASB tracks and controls cloud interaction, illicit access and data breaches at bay. All cloud communications are made secure through a designed network infrastructure.

    3. Advanced Threat Detection and Response

SASE’s Secure Web Gateway (SWG) stops malicious traffic and blocks malicious sites. Next-Generation Firewalls (NGFWs) within the network infrastructure are scanning for security threats within traffic in the background. Both of them together form a multi-layered security solution that detects and mutes cyber attacks in real time.

    4. Reducing Latency and Best Performance

A traditional security model pipes all traffic via a central data centre, producing latency. SASE brings security services closer to users at the network edge, however, which improves performance without sacrificing high security. SD-WAN improves connectivity as well as routing traffic dynamically over the best available network path.

    5. Security Management Simplification

It is expensive and cumbersome to work with multiple security products. SASE integrates multiple security technologies into a single model and minimizes operational overhead. With a robust network foundation, organizations gain centralized visibility and automated policy control, resulting in overall cybersecurity being more effective.

    Conclusion

As companies go through digital transformation, cybersecurity must keep pace. SASE and network infrastructure offer state-of-the-art security, performance optimization, and management ease as a single solution. With all these technologies in a row, companies can put in place a robust, future-proofed security infrastructure that defends against the cyber threats of today.

Putting SASE into place with a broad network infrastructure is not an upgrade—it’s a requirement with the current cyber environment.
