Of course, you don’t have to disinfect your entire home every day. However, there are a few hygiene mistakes that most of us make every day without realizing it. And they are pretty disgusting. It is easier to spend your time at Bizzo Casino.
WHAT TO AVOID
- hygiene mistake: Flushing the toilet with the lid open
The toilet lid should be closed, especially when flushing. Flushing with the lid open releases a fine mist of toilet water into the air – and with it bacteria and faecal germs. These can settle on surfaces and objects around the toilet, such as toothbrushes, towels or cosmetics. Not a pleasant idea.
- hygiene mistake: contaminating your cell phone
Cell phones are considered to be a germ spinner – after all, we take them with us almost everywhere we go. Due to the smooth, dry and relatively nutrient-poor surface, the touchscreen does not offer good living conditions for microorganisms.
If you take your cell phone into the bathroom, you should still wash your hands thoroughly to avoid contamination with faecal bacteria. In most households, however, the bathroom and toilet are cleaner than the kitchen. Cell phones can easily become contaminated with food pathogens there.
- hygiene mistake: storing toothbrushes incorrectly
We put our toothbrushes in our mouths every day – so they should always be clean. However, many people make several mistakes when it comes to toothbrushes:
- Not rinsing the toothbrush cup (or not rinsing it often enough): The cup is home to germs that can spread unhindered. The cup should therefore be thoroughly rinsed regularly.
- Store the toothbrush in a cupboard: Bacteria spread particularly well in a damp environment. To prevent the toothbrush from becoming a germ trap, it should therefore dry as quickly as possible. This takes a lot longer in a closed cupboard. Therefore, it is better to store the brush upside down in a jar without a cover – and as far away from the toilet as possible.
- Change your toothbrush too rarely: It’s time for a new toothbrush every two to three months – many of us change our brushes far too infrequently.
- hygiene mistake: plastic chopping boards instead of wooden ones
Wood is not only more environmentally friendly than plastic, but it can also be more hygienic. Several studies have shown that certain types of wood have antimicrobial properties – in other words, they can kill bacteria. When it comes to chopping boards for the kitchen, experts therefore recommend wooden ones, as plastic cannot do this.
Another disadvantage of plastic boards: grooves and cut marks can occur when cutting – bacteria like to nest there. Wood, on the other hand, can swell and thus at least compensate for small cuts. However, if a board has a lot of deep nicks, it should be replaced – regardless of whether it is plastic or wood. For thicker wooden boards, the top layer can be sanded down.
- hygiene mistake: washing hands incorrectly
You should wash your hands for 20 seconds – preferably with cold water. Probably the biggest hygiene mistake of all – and not just during the coronavirus pandemic: not washing your hands.
But even those who wash their hands regularly can make a few mistakes. The most common mistake is washing your hands too briefly. You should soap your hands for at least 20 seconds. It is also important to dry your hands thoroughly afterwards, as pathogens prefer moist environments.
Incidentally, the temperature of the water does not play a role in eliminating germs. It is therefore just as effective to wash your hands with cold water – and that saves valuable energy!
- hygiene mistake: defrosting food too quickly
Leftover food, fresh fruit and vegetables or a supply of pesto: freezing food is a good way to keep it for longer and thus avoid food waste.
But be careful: if frozen food defrosts too quickly, germs and bacteria become active – and multiply faster than usual due to the heat. So don’t defrost food at room temperature or near the radiator! Even if it takes longer, it is healthier to put the frozen food in the fridge or a cold water bath.
